RUMI Sultan
MUSIC
Rumi became familiar with Balinese gamelan during their undergraduate years at Lawrence University in Appleton, WI. They fell in love with the culture, community focus, and non westernized approach to music making. Rumi moved to New York in 2017 to pursue their masters in Art Therapy and missed being a part of a gamelan community. After a 5 year hiatus, one of their gamelan friend’s from undergrad suggested they check out Gamelan Dharma Swara. They sat in on a rehearsal and haven’t left since.
Rumi works as a board certified and licensed Creative Arts Therapist and holistic wellness coach in Brooklyn. Their psychotherapy practice is Playful Pigment Psychotherapy and holistic wellness coaching practice is Grow With Ru.
They spend their free time enjoying nature, tending to their house plants, experimenting with new hairstyles and cuts, playing with their two cats, and watching Japanese anime.
